Ease of use
DBWorks is easy to learn and allows you to start to work the same day of the installation:
Reliability
DBWorks is a SolidWorks Gold Partner.
That means that DBWorks is constantly up to date with
the latest version of SolidWorks and is controlled unceasingly by SolidWorks
to guarantee an impeccable integration and a compatibility not only with SolidWorks itself
but also with the plug-ins of the other partners.
The quality control excludes the possibility of causing crashes or losses of information at any level.
DBWorks is currently being used, among others, also in military installations.
Security
DBWorks bases its system of security on the system of security of Windows NT/2000.
The validated versions as well as all the parameters which control the rights of the users and all the scripts can be protected
at operative system level.
This way it is possible to protect the files from unauthorized editing and erasing, while DBWorks and all its scripts are granted complete access.
Optionally, you can transfer all the validated versions on a cd or DVD to maintain absolute security and save disk space.
As for the scripts and the parameters, you can hide them to all unauthorized users so that can't find them with Explorer while keeping them readable and editable to DBWorks.
The Enterprise version makes it possible to manage roles on the operative system level, and to define for each one of them the list of the authorized operations.
The Enhanced versions, on the other hand, defines only the roles of administrator and user.
The security of DBWorks is simple and easy to understand, it keeps the files where you expect them to be and simplifies backing up data, also using a simple DOS batch file.
But possibly the greatest advantage brought by the DBWorks security is that it's very light on the machine and on the network.
With the module DBWorks User Rights Manager you can manage users rights in DBWorks behaviour.
It creates DBWorks user roles controlling all critical commands. The Administrator can eventually assign a specific role to any DBWorks user.
This module is distribuited separately.
Performances
The advantages of a system of security based on Windows NT rather than on a vault are manifest when it comes to measuring
the performances of a check-in and check-out of an assembly of a certain size: DBWorks is about 5 times faster than
a system based on a vault and if you often work with heavy assemblies you can gain up to half an hour of work per day,
on every seat.
Scalability
DBWorks automatically installs the database engine used by the Microsoft Access (mdb) database.
This configuration, that comes free of charge as far as the database is concerned, is advised for up to 9-10 sites,
beyond which passing to a more robust database like SQL Server 7.0 (preferred) or Oracle 8.0 would improve significantly the performances of the system.
The upgrade is easy to do and completely transparent to the designers, that will only notice an improvement in the time of response.
Versions
DBWorks is available in two versions, Express and Enterprise.
Take a look to the features of each version.
