Lifecycle of a product: revisions

DBWorks accompanies each document, both SolidWorks and non-SolidWorks, during its entire life, from the moment of creation to the exit of the productive cycle. Each significant passage, such as the final release of a new version, is subordinated to the approval of the administrator and you can automate a series of procedures that will be triggered by any such event, such as the multiple impression in different formats of the drawings, both on printers and on files, the generation of Excel and Intranet documentation, the update of the notes in the associated drawings, etc.

Optionally you can maintain automatic synchronization among the documents and the associated drawings and every time you release a new version for a part or assembly, DBWorks helps you in avoiding unwanted interference with other documents in the case where a part belongs at the same time to several assemblies. It is also possible to manage separately and without conflicts several configurations of a single document and follow the lifecycle of each of them with the only restriction that they must maintain consistency of current state.

The Workflow module is intended to manage user rights on checkin, chekout, release and frozen actions through the lifecycle of products.

Comparison of validated versions

You can recall at any time previous versions of a document and compare them on screen or have DBWorks compare their sub-assemblies/parts structure for topological differences.

Suppose a customer calls you and requests the substitution of a part in an old version of one of your products; you can recall his version of the product and check in real time how the later versions of the faulty part fit in the old assembly or repeat the same operation for the entire sub-assembly selectively and provide immediate answers.

Configurations

The configurations of a document can optionally be managed as separate records.
DBWorks allows you to choose where to consider the configurations as separate entities according to the name of the file and/or the name of the configuration. You can also activate temporarily this option to file the elements of a part library, then disable it and keep in the database a reference of every component.
Managing separately the configurations of a document is compatible with following the lifecycle through subsequent revisions.

Batch printing

The operations of printing and plotting can be automated so as to obtain the simultaneous impression of many copies into different formats on separate printers/plotters.
DBWorks also manages the impressions on file.
An embedded converter to PDF format allows you to export drawings to the Acrobat file type.

Advanced Filter

The Advanced Filter provides a graphical interface for queries that involve several fields.
The list of filtering values can be optionally auto-filled from real values in the database.
The results table can be customized to display selected fields in any given order and is auto-resizing to provide optimal displaying on screen.
The filter is compatible with special fields that once defined can contain several separate values in the same field.

Variant Notes

With DBWorks the update of notes in the drawings is a completely automated procedure.
Notes carry out searches in the data base and update themselves at each save or refresh; for queries that search the DBWorks database, a graphic tool guides you in the definition of the query, but searches can also query with the help of simple macros other bases of data ODBC in the network, as for example the base of the customers or the providers. You can also obtain information on the current user or other system information.
Notes can also be filled with the results of the execution of a program in the form of a script and display the results of calculations and handle special cases specifically. An example is the impression of information relating only to the 5 last validated versions.
All the information stored in the database record of the part/assembly can be included in customized SolidWorks BOM.
DBWorks can also check that the ballooning in a drawing is correct.

Projects

The projects are containers for the documents. The importance of the projects is in the possibility to assign them to such or such other designer so as to define specific competences in the company. The projects are also natural filters to limit the number of the document visualized in the interface of DBWorks.
Each document can belong to several projects and it is possible to have projects which contain others of them.

Management of materials and calculation of mass properties

DBWorks can manage all the materials used in the company and automatically recalculate the mass properties of the part in accordance with density of the material.
A separate database contains all the information related to the materials, including a categorization by family and sub-family, commercial information, density and other physical properties.
The database is customizable and a simple graphical interface allows you to search the right material based on any of its characteristics and select it for a given part.
Each time you change the geometry of a part and save it, or select another material, the mass properties can be automatically updated.

Feature Manager

DBWorks adds a page to Feature Manager SolidWorks. From here, you have access to the commands and a hierarchical sight starting from the open document which indicates the state of the documents.
This view is especially handy as it allows you to perform special operation like batch validation of an entire assembly directly from the SolidWorks desktop.
The page displays the tree structure of the children for the assemblies and the drawings and the tree structure of the parents for the parts.

Data Management from SolidWorks

DBWorks is present during the editing in the SolidWorks desktop to offer its commands and to directly notify the user of the modifications not permitted by the state of the components.
Most of the commands are available on the popup menu allowing to check out parts directly from an assembly or approve documents from drawings, that are often considered as the de facto reference.
